Proofreading/Copyediting
Proofreading (also called copyediting) covers spelling and grammatical errors (including sentence structure), consistency of word usage and spelling (e.g., British, American, Canadian English), and formatting consistency. These are fixed using Word’s “Track Changes” directly in the digital manuscript you provide. If you provide only a paper copy, your manuscript will be marked but you will then need to input corrections. Copyediting includes comments on style.
• Under 1000 words: flat fee of $35.00
• 1001 to 2000 words: flat fee of $50.00
• 2001 to 10,000 words: $0.015/word
• 10,000 words and up: $150.00 for first 10,000 words then $0.005/word
Storyediting
Storyediting includes proofing and deals additionally with story structure, character analysis and development, and manuscript flow. These additional items are evaluated and a detailed report is written that includes suggestions on how you might address any issues.
• Copyedit rate plus 50%
Manuscript Development
For those wishing to go further into manuscript development, I offer editorial consultations for an additional fee, negotiated after preview of the manuscript and a discussion of the scope of your project.
